GERMANY – Eren Toben, 20, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after he burned his pregnant girlfriend alive because he did not want to be a father.
Last January, someone walking ini some woods outside of Berlin found the charred remains of 19-year-old Maria Peiner, who was 8-months-pregnant.
It didn’t take long before police had Peiner’s boyfriend, Toben, in custody – along with his long-time friend, 20-year-old Daniel Mueller.
Both men blamed the other for Peiner’s death, but police would eventually determine that both men lured the pregnant teen into the woods after telling her they were going shopping for baby clothes.
Once in the woods, Toben hit the girl with a piece of wood before stabbing her with a bread knife. He then poured gasoline on the still conscious girl, and set her on fire.
“She was still conscious, it could have been 10, 20, 30 seconds – she was still moving,” the judge said at Toben’s sentencing.
The judge accused Toben of hatching the plan to kill his pregnant girlfriend because “he wanted a free, happy life which he had control over.” As for Mueller the judge said he “acted for the sole purpose of taking pleasure in the destruction of another human being’s life.”
Both men were sentenced to 14 years in prison…. for setting a pregnant woman on fire.
So I guess if you want to murder someone and don’t mind a short sting in prison, take the person on a trip to Berlin and stab them in the throat as soon as you step off the plane.
