KINGSTON TWP, PA – Police have charged 14-year-old Zach Hockenberry with murder after he stabbed three people inside a neighbor’s home, killing a 45-year-old man.
The incident happened on Sunday when Hockenberry broke into a neighbor’s home and stabbed Bobbi Jo Sinoracki in the back as she was vacuuming the living room.
When David Sinoracki heard his wife’s screams for help, he ran to her aid only to have Hockenberry stab him multiple times in the chest. The couple’s 17-year-old daughter tried to intervene and was also stabbed in the chest.
The couple’s 14-year-old daughter ran to a neighbor for help while their 11-year-old son and his friend locked themselves inside a bedroom. By this time, Hockenberr’s father had arrived at the home and restrained his son. He was still restraining his son when police arrived.
All three stabbing victims were taken to the hospital. Despite attempts to save him, David would die from his injuries. Bobbi Jo was being treated for multiple stab wounds to her back while their eldest daughter was treated and released.
Here’s the weird thing — Hockenberry had no apparent history with the family and, so far, police have no motive behind the attack.
“Quite frankly, we’re at a loss as to what exactly the motive is going to be, ultimately, with this child,” Kingston Township Police Chief Michael Moravec said.
Zachary Hockenberry was arrested and charged as an adult with homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and burglary. He’s being held in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility without bail.
A GoFundMe account has been created for the family where $24,000 has already been raised.
