ASHLAND, OR – Police in Ashland say a 12-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death and seriously injured his older sister.

On Tuesday morning, police responded to a home after family members inside called 911 to report an assault.

When police arrived they found 52-year-old Pamela Wolosz dead inside the home, and her 16-year-old daughter seriously injured.

Police say the 12-year-old son and brother of the victims had stabbed them both multiple times with a chef’s knife that he had taken from the kitchen.

Ashland police Chief Tighe O’Meara said the 12-year-old cooperated with police and that the situation was “contained immediately and there was no threat as soon as officers got on scene.”

The boy’s sister was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. The boy was arrested on allegations of homicide and assault and is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility in Medford.

Although a 12-year-old can be charged as an adult, an attorney with the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office said they haven’t decided what will happen in this case.

“Every homicide is tough, and to watch this unfold and see a 12-year-old taken into custody for murdering his mother, it’s been a rough day and it’s going to be a rough patch for the community to work through,” O’Meara said. “This is really especially tragic.”

As for a motive, there isn’t one at this time. O’Meara said the boy doesn’t have a criminal history and are still figuring out what prompted the attacks.

“It’s going to take a while,” O’Meara said. “I would imagine detectives would be working on this for several days to maybe a couple weeks.”

Pam’s husband posted the following on his Facebook page regarding the incident:
