MEXICO – Four juveniles have been arrested in the murder of 14-year-old Irvin Reyes, whose body was found under the floorboards of a vacant house.
After Reyes went missing, anonymous postings began showing up on social media that taunted Reyes’ family by telling them that Reyes was dead and giving them gruesome clues as to where his body could be found.
Eventually they posted the address of a vacant house where they said the boy’s body could be found. Turns out they were telling the truth. Reyes body was found under the floorboards of that vacant home on Sunday.
“It was a particularly cruel way to tell his mother and father what they had done but they made a game of it,” said Commissario Tirse Diaz.
On Tuesday night, police arrested four teenagers, aged 15, 16, 16, and 17, in connection with the brutal slaying. Because of their ages, the boys will be tried for the grisly murder in juvenile court.
As for a motive behind the killing, the state attorney general’s office said that it was over a girl. Several days before he was murdered, Reyes got into an argument with one of the boys, Oscar Adan, over the fact that Reyes was dating his ex-girlfriend.
Authorities allege that on Friday, Adan and his friends contacted Reyes over Facebook asking him over for drinks in an attempt to make Reyes believe the argument was over.
After consuming alcohol, marijuana and pills, a fight broke out and Adan allegedly hit Reyes in the head with a baseball bat hard enough to knock him out. The teens then strangled Reyes with a water hose and stabbed him repeatedly in the chest.
