NEW BERN, NC – Police have arrested 18-year-old Eh Lar Doh Htoo after they say he used a machete to murder three brothers aged 1, 5, and 12, and injure their mother and sister.
Chief Toussaint Summers, Jr. says police received a call Tuesday night regarding a man outside a home with a knife. When officers arrived at the scene they found Htoo and he was taken into custody.
Inside the home of Htoo’s neighbor they would find five family members Htoo had allegedly attacked with a machete-style knife. Two young brothers were dead at the scene, and another brother would die later after being rushed to the hospital.
Their sister and mother were also injured in the attack, but have already been released from the hospital. Their father was at work at the time of the incident.
Eh Lar Doh Htoo is currently in the Craven County jail, held under a $1 million bond. He’s been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Those charges are expected to change.
Chief Summers said that at this point, a motive for this “horrific event” has not been revealed.
