SANDY, UT — I missed this story when it first came out, but police in Utah have arrested 31-year-old Joseph Castellanos after he allegedly beat his girlfriend before stabbing her with a fork, covering her in hot sauce and trying to force her into an oven.
I happened last month when Castellanos arrived home and was very, very upset with his live-in girlfriend because she had been slow to respond to his Facebook messages he’d sent from work.
So, over the next 2 hours, police say Castellanos “punched the woman several times in the face and body, kicked her in the ribs, threatened to kill her, stabbed the top of her head using a kitchen knife causing a quarter-inch wound, held a second knife to her throat, stabbed her head and body at least five times with a fork, urinated on her, struck her with a belt and buckle, poured hot sauce and ranch dressing on her and tried to put her in an oven.” Aristocrats!
He eventually gave up trying to stuff her in the oven, which was on btw, and said he had another plan. He said he was going to boil the woman alive and began heating water on the stove. Police say he also attempted to “pour toilet bowl cleaner down her throat.”
The focus of Castellanos’ wrath wasn’t just on his girlfriend, police report, as he also stomped and kicked at the woman’s dog who was under a table and caused damage to a laptop and at least two cellphones.
The victim was somehow able to lock herself in a bathroom where she’d hidden a cell phone and was able to call 911. When police arrived, they found the woman “bloody and bruised.” She informed the officers what had happened, adding that Castellanos tried to convince her to tell police she was assaulted by someone else.
Police arrested Castellanos and charged him with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and forcible sodomy, aggravated assault, six counts of aggravated assault, propelling bodily substances, and criminal mischief. That woman better hope he isn’t able to post his $100,000 bail.
No surprise to learn that this isn’t the first time Castellanos has been accused of beating the woman. The month prior, he allegedly stabbed her in the leg, tied her up and threw her in a bathtub of hot water. The woman said when she tried to escape, he dragged her home by her hair and beat her some more. The next morning he told her he loved her. When she did not say it back, he raped her. Twice.
