SANTA ROSA, CA – A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed repeatedly by a stranger while watching “The Shallows” inside a Santa Barbara theater.
Santa Rosa police said the 21-year-old victim was watching the movie Wednesday afternoon at the Roxy Theater when a stranger came up behind him and stabbed him multiple times.
“Out of nowhere, he came up from behind him, he stabbed him in the throat, in the arm, in the lung,” Sgt. Josh Ludtke said.
The attacker, described by police as a 23-year-old man, fled the theater and dropped a knife in a theater trash can.
People inside the theater assisted the victim until emergency crews arrived. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, suffering from multiple life-threatening stab wounds.
The attacker was apprehended nearby with the help of witnesses who described the man to police and pointed out the direction he ran to. Ludtke described the alleged attacker as a black man with a full beard and dreadlocks. He was calm and nonchalant when he was taken into custody.
Police have not released his name because, as of right now, they are not sure who he is. He has given a name, but has no ID. He told police he was from the East Coast and had arrived in town four months ago.
Ludtke said they are looking at an earlier stabbing to see if they are connected. Just after midnight Monday morning, 32-year-old Cirak Tesfazgi died after he was stabbed 50 times in a downtown Santa Rosa doorway where he sometimes slept.
“Based on the randomness of the act, the brutality of the act, certainly he’s a person we’re looking into as a suspect,” Ludtke said.

On a side note, skip “The Shallows” until it plays on television. It’s not horrible, but the shitty third act (and it’s SyFy looking shark) destroy any enjoyment gained from the first act’s suspense and shots of Lively’s ass.
