LOS ANGELES, CA – Police have arrested a man after he stabbed a co-worker’s 3-year-old daughter to death inside the garment factory where he and the girl’s mother both worked.
The girl, identified as Baby Ruby in reports, had just been picked up from day care to be with her mother at the McGarry Street clothing factory.
Shortly before 5 p.m., after the girl’s mother walked away from her workstation, 34-year-old Ricardo Utuy walked over and began stabbing the child without warning.
The child was rushed to the hospital, where she would be pronounced dead. Utuy fled the scene after the stabbing but was picked up early Tuesday morning. He is currently in custody on $1 million bail.
I doubt a motive exists that would make any sense to anyone but Utuy, as there is no sane reason for stabbing a 3-year-old girl to death. The dude is obviously nuts and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn he did it because a ham sandwich told him to.
According to reports, Utuy had only worked at the factory for a couple of weeks and did not know the victim’s family. Co-workers reported he did not seem mentally stable and often talked and laughed to himself.
LAPD believe there may be unreported crimes associated with Utuy.
“Anybody that’s capable of doing this heinous act to a young child is capable of doing anything,” said LAPD Detective Moses Castillo.
