Riverview, FL — Authorities say Joshua Carmona killed his mother with a baseball bat and a butcher knife on her 39th birthday.
Carmona hinted to police that he may have been considering killing his mother and stepfather for quite some time, due to “ongoing family issues.” He woke up Monday and decided it was the day to follow through.
Tahirih Lua D’Angelo was found dead Monday, in the home she shared with her husband and their 3-year-old daughter, as well as Carmona.
Carmona reportedly told police he distracted his mother, then knocked her upside the head with a baseball bat, multiple times, before stabbing her in the neck with a butcher knife.
He then hopped in her car and picked his half-sister up from daycare. He was arrested that same afternoon.
The sheriff’s office says there is no history of violence in the home.
“There are no reports, we’ve never received a report,” said Office Colonel Donna Lusczynski. “And according to members of the family, there’s been no physical violence or no incidents of domestic violence that they’ve reported or we’ve learned through the course of our interviews.”
Police say Carmona was once arrested in Pennsylvania for car burglary, simple assault, and drug possession. In February 2017, he was arrested in Georgia for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.
He is being held without bond.
