LUTHER, OK – Police say a 14-year-old boy stabbed a 14-year-old girl multiple times during an assembly at Luther High School.
Luther High School has around 250 students and the school’s board recently passed a measure to arm faculty members.
While none of the faculty are currently armed, they did just go through training for active threats which may have just saved a teen girl’s life on Thursday.
According to reports, the students were attending an assembly on the first day of school when a boy stood up and began attacking a female classmate.
Several teachers immediately intervened and quickly realize the boy was stabbing the girl.
They managed to get him off the girl and throw him up against a wall, but not before he had stabbed the girl 9 to 11 times.
The girl was flown by helicopter to the hospital where she is currently in stable condition.
The suspect was taken into custody and is being held in a juvenile detention center. Police do not know the relationship between the boy and the victim, or a motive.
“Everyone is baffled,” said Luther Police Chief David Randall, adding the boy made comments that made no sense. “(The boy) said he was hired by someone but that he could not discuss it.”
