CHICAGO, IL – A 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy have been accused of killing another teen by stabbing him, setting him on fire, then running him over when he tried running away.
Firefighters were in the middle of training last Tuesday when they noticed smoke in a nearby field. When they went to investigate, they found the smoldering body of 18-year-old Luis Guerrero.
It wasn’t long before police had three teens in custody and charged in connection to Guerrero’s murder, all thanks to the parents of 18-year-old Francisco Alvarado.
Turns out that while police were on the scene, Alvarado’s parents told them their son was an acquaintance of Guerrero’s and that there was unexplained blood stains in their Jeep their son had borrowed that night.
This information led police to 18-year-old Jesus Correa who took them to a motel where Alvarado was staying with 16-year-old Tia Brewer.
Inside the room police found Guerrero’s bloody backpack, a knife and screwdriver, as well as bags of food and clothing that indicated the couple were about to take a trip. It didn’t take long before the beans were spilled and police learned exactly what happened to Guerrero.
According to police, Brewer asked Guerrero to meet her near the West Chicago Public Library. What Guerrero did not know was the meeting was actually an ambush.
While Brewer distracted him, Alvarado crept up behind Guerrero and started strangling him with a belt. Brewer and Alvarado then both stabbed Guerrero multiple times in the neck before loading him in a Jeep Cherokee.
The pair drove Guerrero out to the field where his body would later be found, then called Correa and instructed him to bring them some gasoline. Correa did as he was instructed, and left the scene after dropping of the gas.
Brewer and Alvarado poured the gas over Guerrero and set him on fire. If they didn’t know Guerrero was still alive when they set him on fire has not been reported, but they quickly found out he was when Guerrero jumped up while on fire and started running for his life.
He didn’t get very far as the couple simply ran him down with the Jeep. They then dragged Guerrero back, set him on fire again and placed a picnic table on top of his burning body before leaving.
You are probably wondering what could possibly warrant the murder of someone in such a horrific fashion. Well, according to police, Brewer said it was a form of street justice. Brewer and Guerrero once dated and, according to Brewer, Guerrero had sexually assaulting her.
Police added that despite her accusation, there was no record of Brewer ever filing a complaint against Guerrero.
Brewer and Alvarado have both been charged with first-degree murder. Brewer has been charged as an adult. They are both being held without bond. Correa has been charged with concealment of a homicide. His bail was set at $100,000.
A Gofundme page was created to help pay for Guerrero’s funeral expenses that has already raised $15,000.
