Clik here to view.RIVER GROVE, IL – Police say that Alex Spourdalakis, a 14-year-old autistic boy, was found stabbed to death in the River Grove apartment he called home. On Sunday, prosecutors said they had the two people they believe were responsible for the murder in custody—Spourdalakis’ mother and a second woman who acted as the boy’s caregiver and was also his godmother. Must be one heck of a family…
Dorothy Spourdalakis, 50, and Jolanta Agata Skrodzka, 44, were each charged with first-degree murder. Dorothy was ordered held without bond Tuesday. The boy’s body was discovered in his blood-soaked bed by his father and uncle, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Prosecutors allege the mother and godmother colluded in the child’s murder, after growing frustrated with having to attend to the teen around-the-clock. Personally, I’m kind of wondering how Alex felt about the people responsible for taking care of him. Prosecutors also said that the two had initially plotted to kill the teenager using sleeping pills. When that plan didn’t work for the humanitarians, they say Alex’s mother stabbed him repeatedly in the chest and then slit his wrists, while Skrodzka joined in, also stabbing him multiple times.
The pair were in the apartment when the body was located, and a three-page note was found, according to police reports. Both women were semi-conscious, having apparently taken sleeping pills in a failed suicide attempt. They were briefly taken to a hospital before being questioned by police about the events concerning Alex’s death. The murder weapon was found after a search of the residence, and had been wiped clean, according to reports.
Not surprisingly, the Spourdalakis family was well-known to police, who were called to the residence seven times in the past seven months to restrain Alex. Dorothy Spourdalakis had refused assistance in January from the Department of Children and Family Services, ABC Chicago reported. The station also reports that Spourdalakis appeared in a YouTube video on the Autism Media Channel, begging for help with getting additional treatment for her son.
Spourdalakis and Skrodzka were both being held at the River Grove police station on suicide watch.
