Brooklynn, NY – Police say a man randomly stabbed 6-year-old Prince Avitto to death, and seriously inured a 7-year-old girl, as the two children headed out of their apartment building to get ice cream.
According to law enforcement, Avitto and Mikayla Capers were in an elevator in the the Boulevard housing development at around 6 p.m. Sunday when a heavyset African-American man in his 30s began stabbing the children.
He then chased the little girl out of the elevator and to the front of a neighboring building where she collapsed. The attacker was able to flee the scene, leaving a butcher knife behind.
Capers was up and talking after the attack, but “didn’t look so good,” according to a neighbor. She is currently in serious condition at a local hospital. Avitto, who would’ve celebrated his birthday in two weeks, died at the scene. “He was lifeless, just lifeless. I can’t get the image out of my head,” said a resident.
“They were just coming outside to get some ice cream and ices,” said the president of a the tenant’s association. “This is the worst thing that I’ve ever seen in this neighborhood.”
This double-stabbing takes place just two days after someone stabbed 18-year-old Tayana Copeland to death just down the block. Sources say the teen was stabbed in the chest 32 times.
