TALLAHASSEE, FL – Police have arrested 63-year-old Martha White after she was accused of stabbing her 7-year-old grandson to death because she was fed up with babysitting him and his brother.
Mason Rhinehart, 7, and his 8-year-old brother were playing video games when White walked and told them she had a surprise for them. She took Mason into the bathroom and locked the door behind her.
Mason’s older brother said he then heard Mason crying and begging for his life, saying: “I don’t want to die, please don’t kill me.”
The boy said he tried to open the door to help his brother, but was unsuccessful. Instead, he called the cops and his father before finding a hiding spot.
White eventually walked out of the bathroom covered in blood, then left the house with a bottle of wine. But before she walked out, she reportedly told the boy that she “had a surprise for him too.”
Police arrived at the home within five minutes and found Mason lying on the bathroom floor suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was rushed to the hospital where he would be pronounced dead.
Deputies would find White covered in blood on a dead end street and take her into custody. She was taken to the hospital, but has since been transferred to the Leon County Jail on charges of first-degree murder.
Investigators say they are not 100 percent clear on the motive behind the stabbing, aside from stating White told deputies she was “fed up.”
We are not clear on the motive at this point in time,” said Lt. James McQuaig. “That’s one of the many things that the investigators are continuing to dig into.”
I guess I should stop bitching about my grandmother’s “surprise” that always consisted of stale butterscotch candy and some french kissing.
