NEWNAN, GA – People inside a Georgia Petsmart for a Sunday afternoon pet adoption event were treated to a man repeatedly stabbing a pit bull after it attacked his dog inside the store.
According to reports, a volunteer with the Newnan-Coweta Humane Society was walking a pit bull named Clara when Clara managed to get off her leash and attack a Westie Terrier. Depending on who is telling the story, Clara was simply pulling on the other dog’s ear or had gotten the smaller dog by the neck.
Regardless, the Westie’s owner, Craig Emory, stepped in and began stabbing Clara repeatedly with a pocket knife in front of dozens of families inside of the store.
“It is the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” said Teresa Reeves, who was was there with her fiance and her 10-year-old daughter. “We heard screaming at the front of the store and went running to see what was happening. The pit bull had the smaller dog at the back of the neck holding the loose skin and fur there,” said Reeves.
Reeves said that while Emory was stabbing Clara he was saying “effing pit bull, how are you still around.” Reeves said she and her fiance were able to pull the pit bull’s mouth open and get the dogs separated as Petsmart employees used a water bottle and an air horn – tools they use in dog-fight situations.
The Westie needed to be transported to Urgent Care but is going to be okay. The Humane Society announced that they decided to euthanized Clara. “We did what we thought was best for Clara under the circumstances,” the announcement stated. “Not because she was a liability or the cost of treatment.”
Police say no charges have been filed at this time, but Reeves feels Emory should be punished for what he did. “You can’t just walk into a floor and stab a dog in front of families and children,” she said. “The people who work in that store could have easily gotten those dogs apart from each other.”
I beg to differ. Emory proved that you can stab a dog in front of families and children, especially if it has your much smaller dog in its mouth.
