MOUNT PLEASANT, SC – Police have charged 16-year-old Matthew Fischer with murder after fatally stabbing 17-year-old Lucas Cavanaugh during an argument over a picture the victim sent to Fischer’s girlfriend.
The stabbing happened on Sunday after Fischer became angry over some Snapchat messages that Cavanaugh sent to Fischer’s girlfriend. According to the affidavit, Fischer took his girlfriend’s iPod and contacted Cavanaugh. Words were exchanged and Fischer told the victim “Come over” and “I’ll kill you man.”
Cavanaugh did come over and Fischer made good on his promise. As the two fought in front of the house, Fischer pulled out a knife and stabbed Cavanaugh multiple times in the stomach. He then ran back into his girlfriend’s house “with the bloody knife,” left it there, and then fled the scene on foot.
The girlfriend’s mother, Robynn Davis, found the teenager and made a call to 911. The 8-minute call to 911 can be heard below.
“He’s been stabbed multiple times. It’s everywhere [the blood],” a hysterical Davis can be heard telling the dispatcher. “He’s on his side and his intestines are hanging outside of his body. He’s taking deep, deep breathes. He’s disemboweled.”
Fischer’s mother arrived at the scene shortly after saying she had received a phone call from her son, picked him up and brought him back to the house. Police forced him out of the car at gunpoint and took him into custody. He has been charged as an adult with murder and possession of a knife.
