Kenneth AmyxPLANO, TX – Police say 45-year-old Kenneth Amyx stabbed his girlfriend to death before posting pictures of her bloody corpse on her Facebook page.

Friends and family of 43-year-old Jennifer Streit-Spears contacted police after a couple of pictures were posted to her Facebook. One was her bloody corpse, the other of Amyx’s bloody face with a caption that read “Please pray for us.”

“The pictures were not clear although they were extremely scary. I just started to reach out to our mutual friends to see if they’ve anybody knew anything,” said a friend of Spears’.

When police arrived at the couple’s apartment, the found Amyx outside suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. Inside the apartment they found the body of Spears who, police say, had been stabbed to death.

During their investigation, police would learn that Amyx was wanted in two other counties for separate sexual offenses involving children. In Rockwall County, Amyx was wanted for the continuous sex abuse of a child under the age of 14.

Amyx was taken to the hospital to treat his injuries before being booked into the Collin County jail. He is currently being held on $500,000 bail and facing charges of murder as well as the two sex crimes.

Some were upset that the pictures Amyx posted on Facebook remained there for almost 36 hours before being taken down. Spears’ sister said she contacted Facebook several times to have the pictures removed, but that Facebook said the pictures did not violate their guidelines.

“They told me I could block Jennifer if I didn’t like what she posted and gave me other similar options,” she said.

Facebook defended their actions, stating that even though the pictures were flagged, they initially believed the image was a call for help from the victim, not the killer. This did not violate their posting guidelines so they could not remove the graphic image until monitors determined Spears’ profile was hacked.
