PHOENIX, AZ – A 29-year-old woman has been accused of stabbing her three young sons to death before stabbing herself multiple times in the neck and abdomen.
The unidentified woman and her three children – ages 8-years-old, 5-years-old, and 2 months – lived with her mother and her brother. Late Wednesday night, the woman’s brother called 911 after returning home from work and talking with his sister in the garage.
He told police she was talking incoherently about religion (duh) and said she’d found the answer before locking him out of the house.
After forcing his way in he found his sister in the bathroom suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds to her neck and abdomen. When he ran to get towels, the woman tried drowning herself in the bathtub.
While paramedics were treating her, she told them her three sons were staying with a family member. Police would find this to be untrue while performing a routine search of the home.
Inside a bedroom closet they would find the dead bodies of her three sons. They had been stabbed to death and the youngest had been placed inside a suitcase.
Police say the woman has no known history of mental illness and her family does not know what set her off. However, the woman allegedly told her brother that she was pregnant while stabbing herself.
The woman is expected to survive according to Sgt. Trent Crump, but she “will be in the hospital for some time.” If she does survive, Crump says she will be facing homicide charges.
